The wolf you feed…

“A wise tribal elder told a story to his grandson one evening by the fire.  ‘Inside me, there is a fight raging between two wolves.  One wolf is anger, bitterness, self-pity, jealousy, and sorrow.  The other wolf is love, faith, hope, peace, forgiveness, and joy.  Both wolves are strong, and they battle fiercely – not just in me, but in everyone, even you.’

The young boy thought for a moment and asked, ‘Grandfather, which wolf will win?’

The wise elder replied, ‘The one you feed.’”

This Cherokee proverb best exemplifies what goes on inside our heads every second of the day. It reminds us how absolutely diligent we must be with our thoughts in order to live peaceful lives!

At every moment, we have thoughts that come from the angry wolf- the ego- which are based in fear, and ones that come from the gentle wolf- Spirit- based in love.    What we must do is be vigilant to only focus on those thoughts that derive from Spirit which are in alignment with Truth – that affirm our Divinity-  and support us in accomplishing the life goals we desire.

One might ask “how do I know which wolf the thought comes from?”  The answer is simple: your body temple will tell you! If the thought leaves you in peace, it is a thought from Spirit.  If it leaves you in upset, it is of the ego.

I do not want to imply this process is easy- it can be a lot of work, especially in the beginning!  But I ask, “what is the alternative?- continue living the life you now live?”    What you will be doing is exercising a muscle; the more you do it, the easier it becomes!

Today, I pray you only feed the gentle wolf!   Namaste, dear ones!
